The Malta Chamber of Commerce, Enterprise and Industry set up a council whose aim is to promote business between Malta and North African countries and create opportunities for the Maltese business community.

Chamber vice president Frank Farrugia said that, over the past five years, business councils were set up as an effective tool to sustain local entrepreneurs in their internationalisation efforts.

Malta provides unique platform for trade

For decades, Malta had been seeking to position itself as a hub for business with North African countries and had successfully achieved this especially in Libya.

Malta, he said, provided a unique platform for European countries to trade with North African counterparts.

Air and sea links between Malta and North Africa also needed to be strengthened with a view to make it more feasible for Malta to establish itself as a worthy landing zone for European companies to serve North Africa, the Chamber noted.
