Pupils from St Paul’s Bay primary school were given a free tour of the National Aquarium in an ocean literacy promotion activity held to commemorate World Oceans Day. They also watched a documentary regarding the Filfla marine protected area and were briefed about the Spot the Jellyfish and the Spot the Alien Fish citizen science campaigns. The activity was organised by Prof. Alan Deidun from the University of Malta’s Department of Geosciences, the International Ocean Institute, the Malta Tourism Authority and the environmental NGO Sharklab under the patronage of President of Malta Marie Louise Coleiro Preca. In her address to the pupils the President referred to Sustainability Development Goal 14 regarding the UN’s commitment towards healthy oceans.
