A two-year pilot project will look into the mechanical and electrical performance of floating, flexible solar panels out at sea.

Headed by the Malta College of Arts, Sciences and Technology, the project will investigate whether the set-up is technically and commercially viable.

Flexible PVs are mounted directly on the surface of the sea and the water acts as a heat sink, cooling the panels while they generate electricity.
