I was glad to read the On The Dot item published some time ago about smoking in government departments even though it has been prohibited for quite some time now. Is it being enforced?

It very often happens that when one needs to go to a government department for some reason one can detect the smell of cigarettes everywehere, including the very rooms where officers tend to the people’s needs.

The item mentioned the smoking breaks (since when?), which are normally availed of either in the department itself or in the vicinity, say in the doorway!

I agree that smoking should not be allowed not only in the department itself but even in the vicinity. What about people who suffer from asthma or some respiratory illness?

Smoking should be prohibited on pavements, in gardens forming part of wedding halls, on bus stops and in bus stations.
