British beef sausages and Turkish sultanas were taken off the shelves yesterday after the Environmental Health Directorate found they breached the Food Safety Act.

The sausages, produced by the British Premium Sausage Company, were withdrawn as they contained undeclared traces of pork.

The sultanas, packaged in Malta by Good Health, had been exposed to the carcinogenic toxin orchatoxin A.

Prolonged exposure to orchatoxins has been found to cause Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s diseases.
