Parliamentary Secretary for Health Chris Fearne yesterday said he would investigate the non-availability of thyroid medicine from the pharmacy at Mater Dei Hospital, the only place it was for sale.

He was answering a supplementary question by Opposition health spokesman Claudio Grech, who said thyroid patients relying on the medicine had been told it would be unavailable for some time.

Mr Grech’s supplementary question stemmed from his original one in which he asked about the government’s medicine suppliers between 2011 and 2013.

Deputising for Health Minister Konrad Mizzi, Dr Fearne said there were 152 in 2011, 132 in 2012 and 123 in 2013.
