The Force is with Carrie Fisher as the Star Wars favourite has been voted ultimate icon at the Cosmopolitan Ultimate Women Awards.

Fisher, 59, became a global superstar after playing Princess Leia in the original 1977 Star Wars film.

The award-winning writer and actress is also known for her semi-autobiographical novel, Postcards From the Edge.

Fisher has reprised her famous role for The Force Awakens, the seventh entry in the blockbusting Star Wars franchise. She also has a recurring guest-star role in Channel 4’s raunchy comedy Catastrophe, starring Sharon Horgan and Rob Delaney.

The Apprentice's Karren Brady took home the ultimate businesswoman accolade. Best known as an aide to Lord Sugar on the business-based reality series, Brady became Baroness Brady last year.

However, her vote in favour of tax credit cuts led some to call for viewers to boycott the popular BBC One show.

The X Factor presenter Caroline Flack, who recently spoke out against ‘fat shaming’, won the ultimate TV personality award.

The 10th annual Cosmopolitan Ultimate Women Awards 2015 with Baileys celebrates inspirational real-life women in addition to crowning its ultimate celebrities.

Fearne Cotton hosted the event at London’s One Mayfair where Captain Hannah Winterbourne was announced as ultimate trailblazer in the real-life winners awards.

Rape survivor Pavan Amara is Cosmopolitan’s ultimate empowerment pioneer for campaigns including the My Body Back project and a support group for victims of sexual violence.

Sajda Mughal took home the ultimate humanitarian award. The 33-year-old was caught up in the 7/7 London bombings in 2005. She has since dedicated her life to preventing extremism and radicalisation in the UK.

Ultimate inspiration went to Katie Cutler who raised £330,000 in just 21 days on behalf of Alan Barnes, a disabled man who was brutally attacked outside his house.
