Unleaded fuel will be sold for €1.47 per litre as from today, a 3c drop.

Prices for other fuels including kerosene and diesel remain unchanged.

The drop in the maximum price of unleaded petrol reflected the prices obtained for the latest consignment of imported fuel, energy corporation Enemalta said. Prices of €1.47 per litre of unleaded fuel and €1.38 per litre of diesel mean Maltese fuel prices remain below the EU average. Petrol across the 27-member state EU costs an average of €1.56 per litre, while diesel sells for an average of €1.46.

In a press release, the corporation said the latest fuel consignment had been purchased at December benchmark prices, which were on average 5.9 per cent higher than those in October, when the previous fuel consignment had been bought.

With no new diesel shipment last month, prices for that fuel remain stable, after a rocky 2012 which saw volatile uptake by competition vary between 20 and 40 per cent of the market share.

Internationally, oil prices remain high, with ICE Brent crude prices falling marginally by less than one per cent last month when compared to November.
