In a letter to Times of Malta, André Zammit mentions the initial tests for prestressed concrete that were made in order to build the bridge at Portes de Bombes.
I would like to state that Benjamin Walter Cordwell, who was my grandfather, was one of the first in Malta to pioneer the use of prestressed concrete when he designed and built the Chalet in Għar id-Dud, Sliema, in 1926.
