President George Abela said Maltese Studies at the University were more necessary than ever in an age of globalisation and very rapid change. He was speaking during a recent visit by the Institute of Maltese Studies postgraduate students at San Anton Palace, Attard.

Each student presented a copy of their thesis to Dr Abela, who later commented that he never imagined there were so many different facets of Maltese lifestyle, culture and identity that could be explored, as students at the institute were doing.

He said the institute deserved maximum support from the authorities.
