Students and graduates of the Institute of Public Administration and Management were recently the guests of President George Abela at San Anton Palace.

In a brief address, institute director Godfrey Pirotta explained the scope of the institute, which aims to further develop the academic credentials of civil servants.

Besides the acquisition of professional skills, Dr Abela stressed the crucial importance of integrity, loyalty and a sense of vocation among public officers who are there to serve the nation and its citizens.

The President explained that his relationship with civil servants during the preparations for EU entry had brought home to him the excellent qualities of civil servants.

At the end of the ceremony, the President presented a number of prizes to high achievers who distinguished themselves during the programme of studies.

The students and academics also presented a contribution to the L-Istrina fund.
