Since Malta joined the EU, I have been ordering Saw Palmetto Caps online from the UK. These have always been delivered directly to my door without any problems whatsoever.

However, it seems we are once again returning to the good old days when we could not even import a chocolate bar from Catania.

I received a note from Maltapost informing me that I had received a small parcel containing medicine and that I had to provide a doctor’s prescription for this medicine to be released.

Of course, this caused a hassle and I had to queue for almost two hours at a clinic to obtain this prescription, apart from the fact that I had to pay €10.

I queried at Maltapost and I was referred to the Port Health Services. I got no service at all. I was told I had to send a prescription and when I insisted that Saw Palmetto Caps can be purchased from any Good Earth or health shops in Malta without any prescription, I was simply told that these were the rules.

Can anyone from the Medical and Health Department please illuminate us as to why we need a prescription if we buy a bottle of Saw Palmetto online, when we can buy a whole truckload of Saw Palmetto (same brand) from any health store in Malta without any prescription.
