Founded in 1987 and officially opening its doors in 1997, Meridiana Wine Estate is situated in Ta’ Qali, Malta’s agricultural heartland, beneath the walls of the ancient city of Mdina. Meridiana pioneered the production of premium wines made exclusively from locally-grown wine grape varieties.

After lengthy experimentation, Meridiana acquired the 19-hectare, old military airfield, which after meticulous preparation was planted with Chardonnay, Merlot, Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon.

Meridiana also cultivates Vermentino on a separate vineyard in closer proximity tohe sea. In addition to the estate-grown grapes which are used for its premium range, Meridiana also purchases grapes from selected local viticulturists to produce the fast-growing Fenici range, which is composed of a white (Vermentino, Chardonnay and Viognier), a rosé (Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah) and a red (Merlot and Syrah).

Meridiana produces approximately 140,000 bottles per year. These include the very popular Isis (Chardonnay), probably the island’s best known wine, Melqart (Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot), Nexus (Merlot), Bel (Syrah), Astarte (Vermentino) and Celsius (Cabernet Sauvignon reserve). All of the estate’s wines have DOK classification.

Almost all of Meridiana’s produce is sold locally, with a very small amount going to select niche markets and to a few private clients. For trade enquiries kindly contact S Rausi Trading on info@srausi.com

Meridiana Wine Estate is also open for winery show arounds and wine tasting. More information may be obtained on www.meridiana.com.mt or by sending an e-mail to events@meridiana.com.mt
