Maltese teams enjoyed an encouraging start to the European Pool Championships which got underway yesterday afternoon at the Dolmen Hotel in Qawra.

The opening day produced a convincing 18-7 win for Malta’s Team ‘C’ over their counterparts from Northern Ireland.

In the Under-23 tournament, the Maltese youngsters saw off England ‘A’ to the tune of 7-2 while the O-50 Team ‘A’ had the better of England ‘B’ 6-3 yesterday.

Malta’s U-18 selection were narrowly beaten by Ireland 13-12 in a close-fought match.
