Trail runner Nadia Portelli, a member of Agones SFC, recently competed in the Guernsey Ultra Marathon over a distance of 57 kilometres and an elevation gain of 1,200m D+.

Portelli secured top spot on the podium in the women’s section after completing the race in an excellent time of six hours and 14 minutes, Agones SFC said in a statement.

The Channel Islands’ challenging race, in its third edition, started at 7am from St Peter’s Port and headed straight out to the cliffs for over 27 kilometres before dropping to the more gentle slopes and sand dunes dotting the coast line.

The finishing line was back at St Peter’s Port.

This race is regarded as a great ultra marathon (more than 42kms for trail runners who are stepping up from the full marathon distance or are training for an even longer ultra.

Tiann Erwee grabbed the men’s title after finishing the race in four hours and 57 minutes.

Portelli, who was eighth in the overall classification, said she was delighted to have defied the elements as the race was held in wet weather.

The Agones runner added that the hard work she put in during training, particularly in windy conditions here over the last few weeks, paid off.

Portelli’s next challenge will take her to Cortina D’Ampezzo for the Cortina Trail which is 47kms long and 2,65 m D+ of cumulative elevation gain.

Agones SFC organise the local trail running league with various events along the season, including short and long distance races and a night race.
