Why is it that several government projects fail at the final hurdle – at the finishing stage?
Some 10 years ago, I wrote about the striking difference between the quality of the paving being laid in Parliament square, Valletta and that used in the main street of Dubrovnik (Stradun).
Not for the first time, my pleas fell on deaf ears. Our bad habits of delivering very poor-quality finish seem to die hard. These two pictures were taken last week in Triton Square, Valletta and highlight the inferior quality of the paving used for the project. The very shabby and stained appearance diminishes the overall visual quality of the square and, I might add, is also another example of the squandering of public funds.
Perhaps Infrastructure Minister Ian Borg could look into this.
