I took this picture late in the afternoon last Sunday from the Xgħajra promenade. The whitish layer is clearly pollution.

Now that our country has spent tens of millions of euros in waste water treatment facilities (three in all, the largest one situated in Xgħajra), one expects that sea pollution is a past headache. Unfortunately, this seems not to be the case. And I may say that in the six years I have been residing in Xgħajra, I have not witnessed this extent of visible surface sea pollution.

The winds were in an easterly direction, so they were inland. What is the source of this contamination? Could it be the fish farms? Could it be cross-border contamination? I believe the Malta Environment and Planning Authority should carry out an investigation.

My concern is whether we can ever enjoy clean seawater again. I hope that someone competent may have an answer.
