Heads were bowed in revered silence as politicians paid their respects to President Emeritus Ċensu Tabone at the Palace inValletta.

Members of the Nationalistparliamentary group and the party’s administration bid their final farewell to Dr Tabone who died in his St Julian’s home on Wednesday.

Labour leader Joseph Muscat also paid his respects as did several members of the public who solemnly gathered around the coffin of “the true gentleman”, making the sign of the cross and mouthing prayers for the faithful departed.

The funeral cortege leaves the palace this morning at 10 for St John’s Co-Cathedral where Mass will be said by Archbishop Paul Cremona at 10.30 a.m.
