While doing my duty to vote in the divorce referendum on Saturday I could not stop wondering what was the function of the two representatives of the Labour Party on one side and another two of the Nationalist Party on the other.

Was this phenomenon specific only to Mellieħa or was it noticed and encouraged all over the island? Were they there under the instructions of the respective parties? Was this referendum a political issue?

I would have thought that this was a moral issue and the political representatives were there out of place. Can the political parties explain their presence?
