A concert of Polish music by Polish musicians to celebrate the country’s national day and its presidency of the Council of the EU is being held on Tuesday.

Apart from Chopin, Moniuszko and Paderewski, Poland has produced a number of composers who achieved worldwide fame both in the 20th century and the present one.

Among them are Karol Szymanowski (1882-1937), Witold Lutosławski (1913-94), Krzysztof Penderecki (1933- ) and Henryk Górecki (1933-2010).

Music by these four composers will be heard during this evening. The compositions chosen are: aselection of mazurkas from Op.50, Grave for cello and piano, Capriccio per Siegfried Palm for cello solo and Four Preludes for piano, Op. 1.

In addition, there will be Trop for Piano by Pawel Szyumanski(b. 1954) and Shakespeare’ssonnets for male soprano and piano by Pawel Mykietyn (b. 1971), who will be present at the performance.

Polish musicians Joanna Wicherek (piano), Andrzej Bauer (cello) and Michal Sławeski are taking part.
