The Weeding Dub gig held last year was Bass Culture’s way of introducing themselves on the local scene, a successful debut that brought with it serious doses of bass and dub aplenty.

And now, the budding promoters are back with another event that promises to roll out more bass-heavy mayhem.

Ball-a-Dub will feature Polish dub commandant (and bass Culture resident DJ) Lubay, Malta’s first dub DJ EarthRocker and, from Catania, reggae personality Ciuridda, who is a familiar face in the Sicilian roots reggae and dub scene.

The idea behind Bass Culture is, in the words of its creators, “a way to enjoy and share dub music and the energy and message it transmits”. The local music scene may boast a good number of genres among its many components but in comparison, dub and reggae have had a somewhat low-key profile.

“We want to offer something new and different to what’s already available in the local scene,” the founders said. “We know that people who love reggae and other underground electronic music will groove to dub’s slinky bass lines.”

Ball-a-Dub will be held this Saturday at Azjatika (Razzett L-Aħmar). Doors open at 11pm and entrance is €5 at the door.
