A 21-year-old man from Marsascala was jailed for one year suspended for two yesterday after he pleaded guilty to hunting during the closed season. His shotgun and ammunition were confiscated.

Nazzareno Grech also pleaded guilty to being in possession of an unlicensed shotgun, which he carried without a permit and insurance, and to shooting in a habitable area.

Mr Grech was also charged with carrying a loaded gun at distances of less than 50 or 200 metres from habitable areas and attempting to hunt with a gun that could take more than two cartridges.
