A top security company yesterday rejected claims made by the Police Commissioner in the wake of an incident at the Isle of MTV concert in June.

The incident took place when Khiron Security head John Muscat and Silvio Scerri, Home Affairs Minister’s chief of staff, were involved in an exchange over the accreditation of a guest attempting to enter the restricted VIP area.

When Mr Scerri could not get his way, it has been alleged he asked a police officer nearby to arrest Mr Muscat. Mr Scerri has denied the claim.

During an interview on Net TV programme last Wednesday, Police Commissioner Peter Paul Zammit was asked about the outcome of the investigation into the incident.

The Police Commissioner said Mr Muscat had given different versions of his claim, therefore creating a problem of credibility.

Khiron Security said the Police Commissioner had chosen to answer the question by casting doubt on the credibility of the head of security, John Muscat, by stating he provided incorrect documentation and gave conflicting versions of events, which led to delays in the investigation.

Khiron Security denied providing the police with incorrect documentation. The only documents requested by the Police Commissioner related solely to details of company staff employed at the event, and has no bearing whatsoever on the outcome of the investigation into Mr Scerri’s actions.

“This information was provided to the police seven weeks ago so any delays are not due to Khiron Security.”

Mr Muscat said that contrary to what the Police Commissioner said, he is not the “complainant” in the investigation.

He also denied Mr Zammit’s claim that he had given different versions of the incident, stressing there was only one occasion during which he was requested by police to provide a statement on the incident involving Mr Scerri. This was done on June 30.

“This statement was never challenged or questioned,” he said.

During the interview, the Police Commissioner said an inquiry into the incident would be completed in the coming days.
