The Polish man who died after falling into the sea in Dwejra on Monday was reported missing by his two friends after he failed to turn up to meet them.

Jacek Malek, 33, had gone to Dwejra with two friends, both women, but they decided to go their own way and agreed to meet him later at a specific place and time, the police said.

But he never showed up and they called for help.

They explained to the police they had last seen their friend taking photos near the rocks.

They were worried since it was windy and the sea was rough.

A search was launched and an AFM helicopter called in. The man was eventually spotted near Il-Ġebla Tal-Ġeneral and taken to hospital where he was certified dead.

An autopsy will be held tomorrow to determine his cause of death, police said.
