A number of local and foreign poetry films are currently being shown on several screens within Space B at St James Cavalier in Valletta.

rootsRoutes has been put together on the occasion of Malta’s hosting of the International Federation of Arts Councils and Culture Agencies and the Anna Lindh Foundation forums. Some of the films have been commissioned for the Poetry on Film project run by the Valletta 2018 Foundation and Inizjamed, and others from Leeuwarden form part of the Potatoes Go Wild project.

The films being screened include the following: Eleġija, directed by Ken Scicluna, inspired by the poems Dedika and Eleġija by Doreen Micallef; L.O.M.L., inspired by Raymond Mahoney’s poem Tibqa’ Int, and directed by Gilbert Calleja and Matthew Attard; Aċitilena, based on poetry by Adrian Grima and produced by Fade In Media.

De klei wacht (The Clay Waits) by Heleen Haijtema presents the eponymous poem by Sannemaj Betten. Ierdehûd by Elmar Kuiper focuses on the poem Ierappel Bossa Nova (Potato Bossa Nova) by Arjen Hut. Op ’e knibbels by Piter Hettinga tackles the poem by Wilco Berga. Potatoheads by Sytse Jansma is based on the poem goe rie (A Piece of Good Advice) by Bartle Laverman. The Road to Westhoeke by Richard van der Laan engages the poem by Albertina Soepboer de wei nei de Westhoeke ta.

Yasmin Dedda directs, films and edits two offerings: A Man Dies in Me, which presents a poem written by Zhawen Shally, and An Imminent Dawn, which looks at Twin, written by Ahmad Abdul Hussein as he reflects on both life and death.

■ The screenings are taking place at St James Cavalier, Valletta, until Sunday. They are suitable for all ages and are in various languages. This initiative was organised by Spazju Kreattiv and Inizjamed with the support of Valletta 2018 Foundation, Leeuwarden 2018, Arts Council Malta and Highlight Arts.
