Health Minister Joseph Cassar on Monday said in Parliament that there were currently 16 dental surgery assistants on a three-year contract. Another group had been interviewed last month and were awaiting publication of the results.

Answering a question by Labour MP Carmelo Abela, Dr Cassar said there had been a lot of discussion about the role of dental surgery assistants in the Health Division. A plan had been drawn up to spread them around the various hospitals and other entities in the ministry.

The Health Division could renew their contracts according to the needs of the service.
