According to Bernard Vassallo (November 7) our forefathers never dreamed of adding the eight-pointed cross of the Order of St John to the plain red and white flag of Malta.

In his letter, Mr Vassallo also states that this was the traditional Maltese flag.

I would rather have the present flag with the George Cross on it, given to us Maltese by King George VI for our gallantry in World War II

It is a flag, easy to recognise, remember and admire and most of all reminding us of thousands of brave Maltese people who died for such a noble cause.
