Oscar Pistorius would be welcomed back to certain athletics meetings when he decides to return to competition, his agent Peet van Zyl has claimed.

Pistorius is allowed to travel abroad for competitions after a judge changed his bail restrictions earlier this week as he awaits trial for killing his girlfriend.

Lawyers applied for the conditions to be changed to allow Pistorius to leave South Africa to continue his athletics career.

The 26-year-old is on bail after being charged with the murder of his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp, who was shot dead at his home in Pretoria last month. Pistorius claims he mistook her for an intruder at his home.

Pistorius, known as “the Blade Runner”, could attempt to qualify for this year’s World Championships in Moscow.

Although Van Zyl has said any return will be the sole decision of Pistorius he does not believe event organisers will be put off with the pending court case.

“He is the only one who can determine if and when he is ready to train and return to competition,” Van Zyl said

“I have received through the whole ordeal emails of support from various meeting directors showing their support and condolences for Oscar and wishing him well through this tough time and they hope one day to see him back on the track.

“When the time is right we will approach competitions and I’m sure there will be guys out there who will be willing to have him back out on their track.”

Reports said the South African is unlikely to be invited by UK Athletics to compete at the London Anniversary Games in July but IAAF spokesman Yannis Nikolau last week said: “It is up to the meeting organisers to invite him for the one-day meetings.

“With the IAAF events it is if he qualifies for Moscow, and then on the basis of innocent until proven guilty, he will be free to run.”
