Apparently, Italy and Juventus playmaker Andrea Pirlo, or whoever wrote his autobiography (we all know that athletes’ biographies are written by ghost writers), dedicated three pages to André Schembri’s marking during the match played in Modena last September.

I was at the match and thought our skilful midfielder performed brilliantly.

So did RAI’s analyst, Giuseppe Dossena, who had asked me a few questions on our Schembri after the match. Obviously, Pirlo had other ideas, mainly because he was not allowed the freedom of the park.

Will Pirlo dictate how his direct opponent plays? Schembri would not have been mentioned if he had not obeyed Pietro Ghedin’s instructions to the full. Far from it.

Schembri was singled out as the best player on the field.

Well done lad.
