Thousands of colourful piggy banks will be distributed to schoolchildren to collect money for L-Istrina.

The 11th edition of the campaign started yesterday under the auspices of President Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca, who presides over the annual fundraiser.

Months earlier the Malta Girl Guides helped divide the pigs by school and pack them in boxes ready for distribution.

The distribution of a piggy bank to every student requires the efforts of a large number of volunteers, who together with the AFM, distribute and collect the piggy banks from schools.

As part of L-Istrina BOV Piggy Bank Campaign, the President’s husband Edgar Preca will be visiting several schools for the first time, giving children the opportunity to hear about the campaign.
