The government was making fresh efforts to help the pig breeding industry recover from the state it was in under previous administrations, Sustainable Development Minister Leo Brincat said on Monday.

Meetings were held with pork processors to entice them to use local produce, Mr Brincat said when replying to a parliamentary question by Nationalist MP Ċensu Galea.

The government was also insisting that hospital should be supplied with fresh local pork.

The parliamentary secretariat for agriculture was striving to help find new foreign markets for local pork, the minister said.
