The Żejtun Philatelic Group is hosting the 14th edition of the annual philatelic exhibition entitled L-Istorja t’Artna u lil Hinn Minnha (our country’s history and beyond) from tomorrow to Sunday.

Philatelic material and other collection items in the exhibition will showcase the history of the locality and of the islands with visitors able to envisage a timeline of Maltese history, from the prehistoric period right up to the moment Malta joined the EU and adopted the euro.

All children attending will be given a free set of stamps to encourage them to begin their own philatelic collection.

The history of philately in Żejtun goes back to 1937, when the first Maltese philatelic group, the Malta Philatelic Society, operated from a building in the town.

The Żejtun Philatelic Group was itself founded in 2002 and forms part of the Żejtun Local Council.

The association meets on the last Tuesday of every month at 7pm at the premises of the Żejtun Local Council. Each meeting is addressed by a philatelic expert or historian who opens up the discussion to historic aspects of Malta and beyond, as engraved on the stamps. All are welcome to join the group and attend the meetings free of charge.

■ The exhibition is being held at Ġużeppina Curmi Hall, Jesus of Nazareth Institute, Bishop Emm. Galea Street, Żejtun. It will remain open during the Żejt iż-Żejtun event and entrance is free.

Following the official opening tomorrow at 7pm, the exhibition will be open to the public as follows: Friday from 6pm to 8pm; Saturday from 9am to noon and 6pm to midnight; and Sunday from 9am to noon. For more information, call 9920 3815 or visit www.zejtunlocalcouncil.com/zejtunphilatelicgroup.
