Government pharmacists would be taking industrial action on Monday following disagreements with the Health Ministry over the sectoral agreement, the Union Ħaddiema Magħqudin said.

Pharmacists at Mater Dei Hospital and the Floriana and Paola health centres will not be preparing medicines destined for the roll-out of the pharmacy of your choice scheme, said section secretary Gian Paul Gauci.

They will not dispense medicines that are not available in privately owned pharmacies through the POYC scheme.

This means that if people cannot get their medicines through the POYC they cannot either get them from government pharmacies.

The sections that dispense medicines to people entitled to free medication under Schedule V will open two hours late.

Mr Gauci said that, last May, the union had signed an agreement with the health and finance ministries improving the work conditions and salaries of the pharmacists.
