Christian Mangani graduated with a PhD in chemical biology specialising in the field of peptides, polymers for use on stem cells from the University of Edinburgh.

The study involved the development of materials and peptides that can support the stem cell population within a culture environment. His research identified synthetic polymeric materials and peptide-based ligands that control stem cell fate in terms of cell growth and proliferation.

The degree was partially funded by the Strategic Educational Pathways Scholarship (Malta). The scholarship was part-financed by the EU – European Social Fund (ESF) under Operational Programme II – Cohesion Policy 2007-2013, ‘Empowering people for more jobs and a better quality of life’.
