Peugeot for the first time in its history has set a record lap time at the Nürburgring Nordschleife for an electric car. The car was driven by Stéphane Caillet, driver and technician at Peugeot’s research and development centre around the 13-mile circuit in a time of nine minutes, 1.338 seconds (9:01.338). This equates to an average speed of almost 86 mph and beats the previous electric speed record.

The previous electric speed record on this circuit was the time of 9:51.45 seconds clocked in 2010.

The record achieved by EX1 was formally recognised by WIGE Performance, the official time-keeping body for the Nordschleife.

With its 73 bends and 300 metres of altitude difference, the Nordschleife has a reputation for being the toughest circuit in the world.

The EX1 is a 100 per cent electric, visually striking two-seater roadster and features two electric motors – one mounted on each axle – to allow for a total of 340 bhp and four-wheel drive.
