Candidates from Pauleen’s Dance Studio will be adjudicated by Pam Chater, senior examiner from the British Theatre Dance Association, Leicester, the UK.

Pupils will be judged on their presentation, stage quality, costume and technique. After the performance of 10 dances, the candidates will be lined next to each other for the examiner’s comments, result, presentation of mementos and trophies.

Ages start from 10. Pupils from Grade 5 onwards would present dances with their own choreographies, guided by their teachers, who would also be their mentors.

The public can see a free showcase of what Pauleen Micallef’s studio offers.

Ms Micallef is very much in favour of performance exams.

Dancers should not be limited to take graded exams within the confines of the four walls of a studio. Dance should also be performed in front of an audience and self-expressive interpretation should be encouraged from a tender age to avoid inhibitions later on, should a dancer take her career to a professional or vocational level. This concept offers a window of what auditions would be like, particularly abroad, where competition is tough.

This event is taking place at the town hall, on top of the health centre in Constitution Street, Mosta on Sunday from 10am to 12.30pm.

Since candidates will be under examination and due to Child Data Protection, no photography or video is allowed. Silence and prudence should be respected during the duration of the event.

Entrance is free.
