Pentekoste is the name of a new album of worship songs that has just been released by Frans Camilleri. Largely self-taught, Camilleri has been playing guitar since he was 14, ever since his mother bought him his first one.

“It was a great gift for me,” he reminisces. “I loved playing, especially gospel music, and when my mother passed away a year later, I realised how much I need Jesus in my life.” Camilleri found strength and comfort in writing songs of praise, among them Ħosanna lill-Mulej, Il-Karba, Fik Mulej and Kemm Int Kbir Mulej, all of which feature on his debut CD.

The culmination of a long-standing desire to share his music with others, Pentekoste, Camilleri explains, is a gift. “God gave me a gift, but it’s not only for me to enjoy; it needs to be shared, to bless others, to touch people’s heart and to know the Lord Jesus in a true and living way. This was the motivation behind this album.”

Recorded by Phyllisienne Brincat and also featuring young guitarist Kyle Drakard, the album features 13 tracks, all but one in Maltese.

“The song in English is actually the only one I didn’t completely write myself – I just wrote the melody,” Camilleri explains, adding that he has written many more songs that he hopes to record at a later stage.
