More than 15,000 pensioners who received an incorrect summary of the entitlement they pocketed in December will be getting a corrected review next month.

The Department of Social Security is aware of the mistake and pensioners will be receiving the correct summaries on February 14, a spokesman for the Family Ministry said.

The ministry was contacted after pensioners received a summary that shows the entitlement of the past six months, the Final Settlement System deductions and the amount deposited in their bank accounts. This review is sent every June and January and also includes the payments they should be receiving in the following six months.

Some pensioners need the summary for tax purposes and the discrepancy amounted to a few hundred euros, one said.

A spokesman for the ministry said the received summaries were showing the wrong entitlement amounts for December. Both the FSS deductions and the deposited amount are correct.

There were a total of 15,581 out of 41,177 summaries sent out with the wrong amounts.

The government’s internet service provider, Mita, has identified the cause of the problem and the issue has now been resolved, while the necessary testing is being carried out.

Pensioners will be receiving the correct summaries with the next payment on February 14, while the widows’ and the invalidity pensions will be issued correctly.

The widows’ pension will be out on January 24 while the invalidity pension will be credited on January 31.
