Further to Climate Change Minister Leo Brincat’s efforts to reduce CO2 emissions, I feel that a great way to start would be as follows:
Any motor car with an engine size greater than one litre should have its registration tax increased. For example, the tax on a 1.5 litre car should be at least doubled and at least quadrupled on a two-litre car and so on.
All government cars should set an example and none should be larger than one litre in capacity. After all, a one-litre sized car can carry as many people as a three-litre vehicle. The extra engine size only adds to more CO₂.
So many times do I see large engine size motor cars and sports cars with one occupant and often three or four parked outside a family home. It’s about time that these people give a thought to their grandchildren. Cars appear to be worshipped in this country.
In addition, Malta would be recognised as a country which gave great thought to climate change.
