Andrew Mifsud, 13, ended his first year in athletics on a top note, winning nine gold medals in season 2010/11 that culminated in the MAAA National Championships.

Mifsud started training in October last year with Pembroke Athleta. He took part in all five MAAA Aggregate Meetings, winning all the 100m and 300m races.

On one occasion, he ran the 100m race in 12.60 secs, just seven hundredths of a second outside the national record of 12.53 secs.

During one week in May, Mifsud clinched six gold medals – two at the MSSF (Private and Church Schools) Championships in the 80m and 200m races and four at the MAAA National Championships in the 100m, 300m, 600m and the 4x100m relay races.

In the National Championships, Mifsud broke the 100m record of 12.85 seconds when clocking 12.78 seconds.

All these events were from the cadets’ category (12-13 years).
