The authorities have unfortunately given a licence for a bar to remain open until 4am in a residential area in High Street, Sliema, metres away from a church. In doing so, they have deprived residents of their fundamental right to the peaceful enjoyment of their home and property.

What was once a peaceful area has now become a noisy one. We can no longer enjoy watching television, reading or sleeping in peace because of the disturbances outside.

Is it right that in a residential area a bar should remain open until 4am?

The bar licence clearly states neighbours should not be disturbed and that no activities should take place outside the bar.

Will the competent authorities kindly take action and give us back our fundamental human right to enjoy our property, health and lives without the persistent noise that occurs daily?
