May I add my congratulations to the journalists of The Times who managed the debate between the leaders of the three political parties on February 26. As always, there is room for improvement.

During the debate, Lawrence Gonzi chided Joseph Muscat for denigrating the impressive statements by the EU about Malta’s growth prospects being the second highest in the EU.

Muscat’s statement was referring to the PN’s own growth projections for Malta being higher than the EU’s and the IMF’s forecasts and, therefore, not realistic. This does not detract from the impressive EU statement about Malta placing second in the EU when it comes to growth prospects.

Unfortunately, nobody rebutted the unfair attack in what was a very civilised debate.

The PL’s five-year business plan for Malta is in line with the EU’s and the IMF’s realistic growth projections whereas the PN’s plan is based on unrealistic growth projections the likes of which we have never achieved and, therefore, verge on Mission Impossible.
