Paul Muscat is the winner of the 2016-17 ASMK National Motocross Championship.

During the season Muscat was the stand-out performer, winning six of the eight races in programme to finish with 373 points in the overall standings.

For Muscat, who rides a KTM motorcycle, this was his first championship success. He finished ahead of David Dimech. The Honda rider collected 306 points.

Muscat’s latest championship race victory came last weekend when again showing class in the remaining event from the series.

Muscat was fastest in the opening heat before a runner-up spot in the next run, just behind his brother Trevor with Dimech in third place in qualifying.

Ryan Faenza (Yamaha) won the Class B championship when he amassed 339 points, well ahead of second-placed Mark Mamo, also on a Yamaha, on 145 points.

The veterans class, which was launched this season, saw a two-way battle between Sant brothers, William and Jethro.

William Sant topped the standings on 359 points, just seven ahead of Jethro.

Races from the trials championship were also on the card during last weekend’s series at the ASMK Racing Complex.

In Class A, Damon Bonello, on a Gas Gas, won the race ahead of  Rowen Bonello (Beta).

Sicily’s Antonio Leonardi, also riding a Gas Gas motorcycle, completed the podium.

Daniel Inguanez (Beta) won the Class B honours as Tony Curmi (Beta) settled for second place.

The next motocross championship trials will be held at the Tal-Magħlaq Quarry, in Qrendi, on July 15.
