Just over 344,000 passengers passed through Malta International Airport last month, a growth of 5.8 per cent over May 2011 and a record for the month.

The news comes days after the National Statistics Office announced record tourist arrivals for April.

MIA said aircraft movements, seat capacity and average seat load factor also went up.

All five major markets registered growth during May when compared to the same month last year. The highest increase – 18.7 per cent – was in the Spanish market, followed by six per cent in the German, 5.8 per cent in the French, 3.5 per cent from the UK, and 2.3 per cent from Italy.
