If there is one clear thing which has emerged when we, members of the House, voted on the no-confidence motion, is the fact that Lawrence Gonzi no longer has the support of the majority of MPs!
One now expects that the Prime Minister will be true to his most recent declarations and seek the interest of our dear country before any other considerations. To do this, he has to abide by his own conscience and not heed the advice of those around him – labelled as “the clique” by Franco Debono – whose prime interest is their own hold of power. Then GonziPN’s interest. Malta’s interest lags far behind!
If GonziPN decides to carry on as if Dr Debono’s abstention has not changed anything, then we are in for a prolonged time of political and economic instability, which can only make an already difficult situation much worse.
For the sake of our people and our dear country, I do hope that Dr Gonzi does not delay the inevitable much longer!
