The parking bays alongside the new aquarium in Qawra and across the road are all reserved for coaches, horse cabs and taxis by Transport Malta, covering 30 parking spaces.
Thus, those who parked there last Saturday were handed a fine by the local wardens. This is not right. The number of reserved parking slots should be revised down to four.
I note there is no reserved parking for disabled badge holders!
Bearing in mind that the area near Fra Ben is very popular and attracts a lot of traffic in summer, this parking area is very important. One has to consider that the car park outside Fra Ben used to take about 100 vehicles, with another 200 finding spaces on the rough areas. This has all now been lost and there is a private car park with a fee of €10.
The project has benefited from EU funding and needs to be more socially responsible.
One important aspect of this project is the children’s play area. It is the only one in Qawra and is very important for the locality. In this respect, the water park, which is only used for three months in the summer, could have an alternative use during the rest of the year instead of being closed down.
