Santa Venera local council has finally felt it fit to address the plight of a small group of residents at the edge of the town, on the periphery of Qormi, plagued by incessant parking of HSBC employees, a mechanic who leaves cars outside for days on end, an outlet who reserves the parking spot opposite his shop for customers but finds no problem with them spilling over into the residents’ parking spaces and, now, a takeaway shop that reserves the road with stone slabs overnight and takes tables outside in the morning.

It is a nightmare for residents on this part of Cannon Road, between Qormi Road and Mill Street, to park near their house.

Now the council has supposedly come to our rescue and put up signs indicating restricted parking times except for those residents who hold a parking permit.

We can’t hold our breath though.

When I inquired about these parking permits I was informed that there were no plans to issue any and whoever parks there for more than an hour risks getting fined by a diligent warden!
