The testimony of a man paralysed from the neck down following a car accident last year will have to be recorded at his home because he does not have transport to get to court.

Francis Farrugia, 56, from Paola was left with a devastating injury on April 5, following the accident in which his Subaru van crashed into 31-year-old Joseph Zammit, from Valletta, who was driving a Ssang Yong 4X4 vehicle.

The two crashed at a crossroads in Sammat Street, Paola at 8.15pm. The accident involved another man, Raymond Galea from Żabbar, and a passenger who was travelling with Mr Farrugia.

Both Mr Farrugia and Mr Zammit were charged with the accident.

Mr Zammit was charged with seriously injuring Mr Farrugia and his relative Bernice Farrugia through negligence, damaging the cars belonging to the other men, driving dangerously and at excessive speed and relapsing.

During yesterday’s proceedings, Yana Micallef Stafrace appearing for Mr Farrugia said her client was currently bedridden and although he had a wheelchair he was unable to get to court because he needed the proper transport which he did not have.

Police Inspector Spiridione Zammit and lawyer Michael Tanti-Dougall who is appearing for Mr Zammit agreed on a date next month to meet at the home of Mr Farrugia to listen to the testimony.
