During the inauguration, school headmaster Kenneth Vella said the project complements various other environmental initiatives undertaken in the school in recent years.

These include the installation of a tent to shelter the school yard, enabling it to be used in any kind of weather, and the installation of 50 solar panels and an air-cooling system in all classes. The latter project that will be finalised in January.

Besides these infrastructural projects the school has also undertaken various other initiatives to help raise students’ environmental awareness, including the importance of water conservation, such as the We Eat Responsibly project, the iSchool Garden initiative, the HSBC Catch the Drop campaign and the Edaav Imagine Water project.

The school has been given  Green Flag status and awards by Dinja Waħda several times, and last year it started participating in the Leaf programme.

The ceremony was also addressed by engineer Marco Cremona from Sustech Consulting, who coordinated the project. Mr Vella also thanked Glenn Bugeja from HSBC Bank Malta plc for his support. The project was inaugurated by Marine Bazelaire, head of corporate sustainability at HSBC Bank.
