Champions Valletta will be without midfielder Claudio Pani for their next two league fixtures after the Italian was handed a two-match ban following his red card in the 1-0 win over Mosta last Friday.

Pani was given a straight red card by referee Malcolm Spiteri for a lunging challenge on Mosta left-back Adrian Caruana three minutes from half-time. The suspension rules Pani out of Valletta’s games against Pembroke Athleta, on September 10, and against Balzan a week later.

Gerard Ellul, Valletta’s team manager, was slapped with a four-match touchline ban after being orderer off the bench during last week’s tetchy encounter with Mosta.

Mosta defender Benjamon Oweregbulam also received a two-match ban following his dismissal against Valletta. Oweregbulam’s debut for the Blues lasted only 12 minutes as he was red carded for a reckless tackle on Brazilian forward Jhonnattann.

The Nigerian defender will miss Mosta’s league games against Hibernians (September 10) and Gżira United (September 17).

Brazilian defender Tony, who has scored Gżira United’s two goals in the Premier League so far, was suspended for one match after his goal celebration in the 1-1 draw against Ħamrun Spartans last Saturday was deemed provocative.

Tony will sit out the match against Sliema Wanderers on September 10. The Maroons are expected to lodge an appeal against Tony’s suspension.
